Important

Some theoretical knowledge of Dr. Baumgaertel's protocol and TAD use in general is required to get the most out of the TAD Challenge mentorship program. We strongly recommend attending either an in-person course or Dr. Baumgaertel's TAD Certificate Course

The Format

General Overview

Since all participants will come from different backgrounds with different levels of experience, Dr.Baumgaertel will customize the format to your individual needs, and the format may even change as you progress through the Mentorship Program. The general format however will be as follows:

Patient Selection - A patient with a high anchorage requirement is a TAD candidate. You will briefly present this patient, mainly do discuss if your ideas are realistic, and determine the appropriate course of action going forward and the ideal time point for the TAD insertion.

Pre-Insertion Work Up – Approximately one month prior to the insertion you will complete a more in-depth work up of your patient, including progress records and intended treatment set-up, based on the knowledge acquired in the lectures and seminars.

Critical Review – Dr. Baumgaertel will subject your work up to a critical review and will use the clinical situation of your patient as a teaching moment to explain all the relevant factors that apply here. This will usually include, but is not limited to:

  • discussion of ideal insertion site and alternatives
  • discussion of the appropriate TAD choice
  • discussion of appropriate biomechanics
  • discussion of potential concerns and pitfalls
  • A step-by-step instruction of the correct insertion procedure

Follow Up – After the insertion you will follow up with Dr. Baumgaertel to discuss the experience and analyze your insertion and biomechanics using clinical photos.

First insertion completed. Now repeat. For a total of up to ten times.
