Title: TADs - Bridging the ‘Science - Practice’ Gap
Synopsis: Over the past years science has made great strides in providing actionable evidence for the use of TADs. However, some of these evidence-based pearls have not yet penetrated clinical orthodontic practice. At the same time, pioneering clinical practice showcases applications that go contrary to current evidence, and yet TADs are being successfully used in these cases. This is the ‘Science - Practice’ Gap, a situation where clinical practice, much to its detriment, does not implement what the evidence clearly recommends, or a situation where clinical practice successfully employs a protocol that science currently has no explanation for. In this fast-paced, evidence-based, and clinically relevant lecture, Dr. Baumgaertel will discuss some of the most prominent examples of the ‘Science - Practice’ Gap as it relates to TADs in orthodontics.

Title: My Top Three TAD Indications
Synopsis: Temporary Anchorage Devices can be used for a wide range of indications in orthodontic practice. However after over a decade and a half of mini-implant use in clinical practice three indications have proven to be the most common indications in a clinical practice setting: Miniscrew-Assisted-Rapid-Palatal-Expansion (MARPE), maxillary posterior intrusion, and molar protraction.
In this fast paced lecture Dr. Baumgaertel will outline these three indications and in the process explain the recommended implant site selection and various biomechanics to successfully and confidently tackle maxillary constriction, anterior open bites and posterior space closure.
